I worked at HSBC Holdings as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

Worked with teams across the globe and most people were friendly and although incredibly busy, were easy to get along with once you managed to get a meeting with them face to face.

Cons

Like any large bank, emails get lost and it's hard to get timely responses from people but it didn't turn me off the organisation.

    Pros

    Good Benefits and time off

    Cons

Too much power in the hands of local management, they are able to promote and give higher pay and bonuses to their favorites rather than basing it on actual results. Not enough checks and balances in place to ensure fair practices are in place. Too much favortism and discrimination.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a closer watch on who is getting pay raises and why....it could be personal.

Good place to work, if you like smooching butt and are deemed part of the "club"

    Pros

    vacation entitlement higher than norm

    Cons

salaries, pay bumps and bonuses are below industry norm.
very little opportunity for changing jobs internally, for such a large company
little chance of promotions, unless you've been indentified as a "star" - which likely means you're skillful at smooching butt. It's not about your performance at HSBC; it's about how you fit into the "club".
Old Gulliver is a bean counter who knows nothing more and is using this approach to managing the company.
