    Pros

The culture at HSBC was usually very positive. There were always opportunities to get involved and make a difference in the world.

    Cons

The downsides were not any different that an any other employer. As the saying goes, the grass is not any greener on the other side of the fence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication, communication, communication. Communication in the corporate arena as well as getting to know the people that you work with every day.

    Pros

Great global/historic reputation. "Very political" on the West coast of US.

    Cons

Awful career growth, pay and recognition. Forced ranking is distressing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share the wealth with middle and lower management. Recognize the contribution at these levels. One or two rising stars is not enough.
