Pros

It serves a wonderful purpose and is very community oriented. Volunteers from all walks of life get together to help their neighbor.

Cons

Most of the positions are part time, almost no benefits for the majority of the employees. Communication isn't always great.

    Pros

    This review has to do with the Pensacola affiliate. The staff are friendly and great to work with. They are professional and generally know what they are doing.

    Cons

    This review has to do with the Pensacola affiliate. Unless you are in upper management, your salary is low enough that you likely qualify for their program. Also, there is virtually zero accountability - as long as you don't question upper management, you are good to go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The board of directors need to take a thorough look at all aspects of the affiliate. Low morale and inattentive management make this an extremely frustrating place to work with high turnover.

    Pros

    [NOTE: This review is based on experience at the Americus, GA office] Opportunity to contribute to worthy mission and life changing work being done around the world; very mission-focused, attracts quality people and fosters congenial work relationships; hours tend to be flexible (office opens at 8 am but many people arrive closer to 9, families with children can usually flex time around school schedules); casual workplace, jeans and polo shirts are common; in addition to vacation time, organization offers "mission time"--paid leave time to volunteer with a local Habitat affiliate

    Cons

    [NOTE: This review is based on experience at the Americus, GA office] Remote location in rural Georgia, telecommuting policy is inconsistently enforced; not much opportunity for advancement, though lateral transfers are very common; senior leadership tends to micromanage project roll-outs rather than set strategy and "pet projects" are common; struggles with internal communications (departments operate in silos, hard to funnel feedback up the chain to leadership); recently went through two rounds of layoffs due to budgetary cutbacks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus more on innovation, rather than relying on outdated industry practices, in all areas (PR/marketing, employee engagement, fund raising, web vs. print communications, etc); hold senior leadership accountable to high level strategy that clearly sets the course for division objectives
