Great company overall but IT management uses intimidation, fear and bullying as techniques

I worked at Halliburton as a contractor (more than an year)

Pros

Great salary; co-workers are very knowledgable and helpful; gym, daycare and cafeteria onsite; good structure and processes; management are decision makers

Cons

Don't trust IT management; high attritionrate; bosses perceived as bullies; contractors should expect to stay contractors although managers will entice people to stay with the old "everone's on track to become employees" bait and switch; don't trust anyone; gossip runs rampant and will be used against you even if untrue

Advice to ManagementAdvice

too many chiefs and not enough Indians to do the detailed work needed; IT management needs to be revamped since bullying, fear and intimidation are not accpetable methods of managing and incenting staff; outsourcing entire support process to Accenture was a mistake employees are paying for; BattleRed Project is a joke; be honest with staff and don't dangle possibility of employment in front of contractors if you only intend to maintain them on a long-term contract status; self starters and problem solvers watch out; you must check everything with your manager (whenever they are available) to see if you can to see if it's okay

It is a quality learning experience, but management overall is severely lacking.

I have been working at Halliburton full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Regular schedule, autonomy and minimal contact with management. Very little office time.

    Cons

Low pay compared to other companies for same work. Too many changes in job role. Very little regard for employee happiness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop stepping over dollars to pick up dimes. There is very little use in saving $10,000 a month and increasing another useless expenditure by $50,000 a month. Also, the management needs to remember that Halliburton has always put the employees' happiness above most other companies, but that's changed a lot in the last year.
