I worked at Halliburton full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Career advancement in some areas of the company is good
In general all the people are great to work with
Able to travel the world and go places I never thought I would ever visit: Middle East, Russia, Brazil, Norway, etc.

Cons

If you aren't part of the top 10% that management wants to promote, you won't see much career advancement. Management doesn't care about the people, it's more about hitting quarterly numbers at any cost. Too many layoffs, leaving the rest with more work and no extra pay. Not a work life balance company. You are expected to work late nights and weekends.

Great company overall but IT management uses intimidation, fear and bullying as techniques

I worked at Halliburton as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Great salary; co-workers are very knowledgable and helpful; gym, daycare and cafeteria onsite; good structure and processes; management are decision makers

    Cons

Don't trust IT management; high attritionrate; bosses perceived as bullies; contractors should expect to stay contractors although managers will entice people to stay with the old "everone's on track to become employees" bait and switch; don't trust anyone; gossip runs rampant and will be used against you even if untrue

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

too many chiefs and not enough Indians to do the detailed work needed; IT management needs to be revamped since bullying, fear and intimidation are not accpetable methods of managing and incenting staff; outsourcing entire support process to Accenture was a mistake employees are paying for; BattleRed Project is a joke; be honest with staff and don't dangle possibility of employment in front of contractors if you only intend to maintain them on a long-term contract status; self starters and problem solvers watch out; you must check everything with your manager (whenever they are available) to see if you can to see if it's okay

    Pros

fair pay, good employees, lot's of opportunities

    Cons

they spend too much money trying to expand the diversity of the company rather than compensate the employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

re-evaluate mid management. they have let a lot of good employees walk away over pennies
