Advice to ManagementAdvice

Introduce skip meetings to get feedback about mid level managers and focus on quality of work from an individual rather than candidate's good looks and talking ability.

I have been working at Halliburton full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Compensation and benefits are competitive.
North belt campus is pleasant and modern: child care, employee gym, peaceful landscaping, nice cafeteria. Free coffee and espresso in every break room, and a TV tuned to Fox News.

    Cons

Management is authoritative with a distinct hierarchy structure. Research workforce is green, lots of PhDs and very few people with energy services experience. Project teams appear directionless with organizational factions arguing over responsibilities and project direction. Safety culture is extremely restrictive to getting any work done, and decisions almost seem arbitrary. administrative and career tasks detract from project work. People do not return phone calls and generally do not share your urgency in performing tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reign in HSE, they prevent project work from getting done! Focus employees on project work and give them a break from personnel reviews, bureaucratic nonsense, and safety road blocks. Hire someone with experience to lead projects, because no one here has a clue.

I worked at Halliburton full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, decent pay, very flexible when family members are hospitalized. The executive team tries to be transparent to its employees.

    Cons

Rating and ranking is VERY subjective and not always based on the stated goals and objectives of the job title. Regardless of if the employee met or exceeded goals and objectives, the rating can still be "does not meet objectives". Managers take out their personal feelings about the employee in their rating, which is salary affecting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider re-training managers in effective assessments and how to coach employees throughout the year. Hold the managers to the same subjective evaluations to show them the effect it has on employees - then give them the true rating based on stated goals and objectives.
