Strong in most respects, but slow and sometimes redundant

Former Employee - Human Resources Intern in Houston, TX

I worked at Halliburton as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Excellent training, HR function is being revamped to more accurately reflect business needs and therefore presents a lot of opportunity and headaches.

    Cons

Slow, bureaucratic, somewhat conservative in its outlook. Onboarding needs serious work and there is definitely a generational skills gap. Oil field services isn't the 'sexiest' industry. Anecdotal evidence says pay is middling for oil and gas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work very hard on employment branding efforts when going after Master's level students. You have a very good program, be sure to make everyone aware of this.

Current Employee - Operator Assistant I Frac/Acid in Fort Smith, AR

I have been working at Halliburton full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You'll gain more knowledge from their training than anywhere else. More opportunities to move around in the company

    Cons

If you can't follow policy or safety rules then it's not the place for you. It is a lot of time away from home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The hiring process from the recruiters never emailing back and the NEO is like cattle being pushed from one field to the next. They have so much required training to get you through that your personal stuff is pushed aside like benefits, payroll, specific job details and etc. They only spend a few minutes on that and two weeks of certifications. You'll have to do the research and work to figure out the best options on benefits or call around to figure out where to be or what is next during training. The material is great but it's 50 people at a time with different positions and they don't spend much time on individual issues. It's just mass certification and training.
