I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand

Pros

- Relatively competitive salaries and benefits (not really a 'pro' since life/work balance is a figment of management's imagination)
- Possibility of working with truly talented people (possibility dwindles as the talent pool are hired away to greener pastures and new hires begin to understand how HS really works - see 'cons' below)

Cons

- Rampant nepotism among executives and senior management
- There is an element of 'reverse Darwinism' within the organization (incompetent managers survive while the best give up, in frustration, and move on)
- One word: ACE (which, in practice, is more an acronym for: Aggravate Company Employees)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Show humility; be genuinely concerned about the workforce who make the executive salaries and huge bonuses possible.
- The right way ahead is not just in the data. An informed intuitiveness is also required. Charisma comes in handy.
- Demonstrate true leadership; standing in one place, or stepping back while others take risks, does not cut it.
- The power to inform and persuade win the battles for hearts and minds. Communicate. Motivate.

I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand

    Pros

If you need a job they probably will hire you since turnover is such that people are always leaving. Some good people, just not at the project manager level.

    Cons

Management does perform the duties of management other than hiring and firing; no training, leading, communication; or competent planning; In general dysfunctional leadership. Those I knew had no people skills. The company does not provide adequate resources (software tools), assigns tasks generally when they are already behind schedule. They points finger at subordinates and fire them when they dare disagree or things don't work out due to their own incompetence.. They furlough employees without pay to save money then Heaven help them if they don't work for free anyway to meet absurd deadlines they set.
Most of the experienced people of my project left for good reasons; lack of appreciation, this means few experts at hand to provide direction. they are generally under staffed, under trained and in a crisis mode..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a close look at lower level management. Some are incredibly incompetent, rude, petty tyrants that block progress (micromanage) rather than support and either do not know what is required or do not communicate what they know, if anything. Provide some training for crying out loud, make sure employees have adequate software licences for tools and make an effort to hang on to those who have endured long enough to provide expertise.

I have worked for them for 30 years but I am really starting to regret sticking around.

I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand

    Pros

I find it difficult to see any of the advantages. If you are in manufacturing you need to speak Polish Russian or Chinese to keep your job. Their stock prices continue to make you money but they make it clear they do not want to keep manufacturing in this country. They would sell out their own mother for the short term buck.

    Cons

They talk alot about valueing their employees but just tell them something they don't want hear sometime and you will see your true net worth. Diffrences in opinions will not be tolerated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating your employees with a little respect. Alot of 20+ year veterans are treated as though they are nothing more than a numbered tool that needs to be replaced with the newest version of inexperianced college grad.
