    I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Very flexible schedule, this was by far the biggest advantage to working to working there. I enjoyed working as a project engineer, got many different assignments and there are different divisions to move to if you aren't happy where you are. The people there were great to work with and another reason I enjoyed the job.

    Cons

    Biggest downside was layoffs. One round every once in a while is ok to get rid of dead weight but they let really good people go due to downsizing to make their profits, makes you feel like just a number. They also had furloughs when I left.

    Pros

    Very high-tech product. Huge diversity in job opportunity. Good benefits. Ability to move around within the UTC umbrella of companies.

    Cons

    Not a lot of focus on work/life balance. With all the layoffs, older folks are squatting on jobs and make it difficult for the next generation to be promoted. Knowledge sharing is on a need-to-know basis. Performance reviews are less a measure of the employee and more a check in the box.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Try some one-on-one skip level meetings. Have opportunites where employees truly CAN exceed their PFT objectives, not just complete/incomplete....those are merely called job duties. I wanted to grow with the company, but when I put in extra effort/hours it became the new normal. Seek out those that are giving 110% and say thanks. I received more appreciation from our customer than our company.
