I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

A broad multifunctional organization with lots of opportunity to change jobs and keep learning without moving cities. Generally positive culture with many smart, fun people who care passionately about their work.

Cons

The organization is highly stressed to "meet the numbers" and manage new programs. The structure can be very top down and place unrealistic demands on processes or individuals.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust us more. We care as much as you do and are working really hard. Believe it or not, we actually know what we're doing most of the time. And, please, take a vacation. It will do us all good to have you a little more relaxed, more creative, and less reactive.

    I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Very high-tech product. Huge diversity in job opportunity. Good benefits. Ability to move around within the UTC umbrella of companies.

    Cons

    Not a lot of focus on work/life balance. With all the layoffs, older folks are squatting on jobs and make it difficult for the next generation to be promoted. Knowledge sharing is on a need-to-know basis. Performance reviews are less a measure of the employee and more a check in the box.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Try some one-on-one skip level meetings. Have opportunites where employees truly CAN exceed their PFT objectives, not just complete/incomplete....those are merely called job duties. I wanted to grow with the company, but when I put in extra effort/hours it became the new normal. Seek out those that are giving 110% and say thanks. I received more appreciation from our customer than our company.
