Valuable Opportunity if You're Proactive

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Hanover Research

ProsGreat environment to learn and explore
Management is open to new ideas and new ways of doing business, if you're willing to share your opinions
Lots of space to create new opportunities within the company's existing offerings
Company has defined specific methodologies in several core areas
Engaging, smart colleagues
Nice office location
Solid core business model

ConsVery little professional development support or on-the-job training
Lack of opportunity for structured career growth beyond director roles
Most job skills are self-taught
"Product" innovation is often difficult and slow
Office environment needs a makeover
The viewpoints of soft-spoken employees often go unnoticed
Need for increased communication channels between lower-level employees and management

Advice to Senior ManagementHanover has established itself as a good place for entry-level employees to gain some on-the-ground experience and establish baseline leadership capabilities. However, the current challenge for leadership lies in recruiting and retaining top-notch talent at the mid-level and beyond. Employees want to feel both challenged and empowered and it is critical for the company's leaders to provide more hands-on feedback and guidance to keep people around. If employee's niche skill-sets cannot be developed in-house, it may be advantageous to outsource training/development needs to external partners. Additionally, the company should consider hiring an in-house marketing team or liaison rather than contracting with outside vendors for things such as collateral design.
