Pros

Hanover is split between development and research This review is specific to the research side:

- Fast promotion track. Near perfect meritocracy.
- Challenging but varied work. No project is the same.
- Quick turnaround projects. Make work less tedious.
- Build market research skills. If you seek initiative.
- Helpful and laid back coworkers. No politics.
- Fast paced environment. There is no room for boredom.
- Good benefits. Free health and dental insurance.
- Being part of a growing company. Hardly any bureaucracy.

Cons

- Low starting salary. Though pay increases at a rapid rate if performing well (~10% per increase).
- No professional dev. program/external training opp. Need to implement.
- Not enough vacation time. 15 combined sick & PTO days.
- No client facing experience. Until Content Director position.
- Solitary research work. By design, group work hardly occurs.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to management: Invest in human capital. Good researchers, you want to keep them happy. This means allowing them ample opportunities to get more training (e.g. relevant classes, conferences, etc.), more vacation days, and pay them better. Believe it or not, this will benefit you in the long run. Also think about career paths for researchers who are not interested in client facing roles.

Advice for future researchers: those who take initiative, come up with ways to improve the company, and work hard will get rewarded. Those who need more handholding and are not productive will not go far and will be dissatisfied.

    Pros

This company is experiencing fast growth, which means busy people and major opportunities for employees. We're about to break into the top 50 research firms in the country and we just hit 100 employees with no slowing down in sight. Most of us have had the chance to take ownership of some really exciting work; if you have a good idea and you're willing to log the hours, Hanover is a place where you can leave your mark.

Hanover's generous with the job perks and the atmosphere is very social. We all have tons of work to do, but smart, interesting coworkers mean plenty of social breaks from the daily grind.

    Cons

Everyone here is over capacity, which is great as far as growth opportunities are concerned, but frustrating until you're paid for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'm going to echo the communication issues. There are too many secrets around here and there's not enough communication between departments.

    Pros

Great environment to learn and explore
Management is open to new ideas and new ways of doing business, if you're willing to share your opinions
Lots of space to create new opportunities within the company's existing offerings
Company has defined specific methodologies in several core areas
    Engaging, smart colleagues
    Nice office location
    Solid core business model

    Cons

Very little professional development support or on-the-job training
Lack of opportunity for structured career growth beyond director roles
    Most job skills are self-taught
"Product" innovation is often difficult and slow
    Office environment needs a makeover
The viewpoints of soft-spoken employees often go unnoticed
Need for increased communication channels between lower-level employees and management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hanover has established itself as a good place for entry-level employees to gain some on-the-ground experience and establish baseline leadership capabilities. However, the current challenge for leadership lies in recruiting and retaining top-notch talent at the mid-level and beyond. Employees want to feel both challenged and empowered and it is critical for the company's leaders to provide more hands-on feedback and guidance to keep people around. If employee's niche skill-sets cannot be developed in-house, it may be advantageous to outsource training/development needs to external partners. Additionally, the company should consider hiring an in-house marketing team or liaison rather than contracting with outside vendors for things such as collateral design.
