I have been working at Harbor Freight Tools

Pros

Great visibility to senior management
Great collaboration among departments
Lots of opportunities to challenge, come up with new ideas
a Lot of growth

Cons

Very direct, and straightforward.
If you don't like being in the spotlight, this ain't the place for you
If you can't handle lots of change happening very fast don't apply
You need ot have a high level of urgency to work here

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let people get used to their positions and hit their stride before changing everything
Give managers a chance to manage, don't micro manage us

    Pros

    Company offers good individual benefits for full time workers.
    Company offers decent bonus incentives for management.
    Company offers decent employee discount.

    Cons

    Low leadership expectations of store and district management.
    Lack of professionalism in store and district management
    Inefficient procedures which lead to wasted time.
    Distribution centers will pass shrinkage onto the stores leading to inaccurate inventory counts.
    Shady locations
    Company has a habit of transferring bad managers instead of terminating them.
    Inability to stick to return policy.
    Lack of clarity for job expectations.

    Hold your store and district managers to a higher level of leadership and professionalism.

    I have been working at Harbor Freight Tools

    Pros

    The benefit package is decent compared to some companies.
    Their corporate office is in a new, clean building with above average amenities.

    Cons

    Unrealistic expectations from management.
    Managers are not trained properly.
    Employees are put in "sink or swim" situations without proper training, leadership, or direction.
    Creativity is not encouraged.
    Work days are well over 8 hours in many departments and as high as 12 hours.
    Compensation is far from competitive.
    Harbor Freight Tools is often referred to as a "revolving door" due to the often occurrence of employees either quitting or being fired.
    Definitive career paths are not established.

    Train your managers properly.
    Treat your employees with more respect.
    Do not under compensate and over work your employees.
    Encourage ideas and creativity.
