Was there during the peak, and left when things got shakey. Confident it will be back.

Pros

Interesting and creative people, cool product, awesome brand recognition. Very good benefits and other perks.

Cons

Sad to see the decline in sales and employment. Lots of changes in management and staff took its toll on morale.

Advice to Management

Balance the passion for the product with focus on running the business by the numbers. Seems like you have swung from one extreme to the other (but there still seems to be wasteful spend).

From American Iron to Global Composite in a few years of reckless outsourcing

    Pros

Great brand and product, fantastic customer base.

    Cons

The current leadership has managed to annihilate product development and engineering and populate these key functions by incompetence and mediocrity. Outsourcing trends are downright scary as the leadership is deliberately trying to outsource lost skill and severely depleted human capital. Outsourcing is becoming a way to make this great American company global, but I think that the company is at risk of losing its American identity in this shortsighted process.

This was once one of the great American companies, today it is at risk of becoming one of many mediocre global companies and that it's if the things go well for the current leadership. And, if the things don't go well for them, it may be the end. Either way, Harley Davidson is never going to be a great American company again.

    Advice to Management

You have been entrusted with one of great American treasures and a good manufacturing company. By your reckless actions, you are turning it into a commodity brokerage, and you are transforming the great American motorcycle into another soulless pile of hardware. Please think of the future of this great brand and its people and customers when making key decisions, and not just yourselves and shareholders.

Good benefits, good flexibility, poor growth potential without having just the right connections

    Pros

Very good benefits, although they keep reducing them over time.
    Strong team collaboration.

    Cons

Hard to move up on skills and hard work alone; skills not appreciated. Appreciation only comes from telling or doing what upper management wants, if you can figure that out.

    Advice to Management

Middle management is to "fat" and too much "good old boys" club atmosphere needs to be reduced and real work and skills appreciated more through career growth and compensation equtable to work/skill level.
