    I worked at Harley-Davidson

    Pros

Harley has great products. Employees as are passionate about what they do as customers are about their Harleys. Truly a great experience!

    Cons

Lots of transformation in progress in several areas. Leadership is focused on driving significant change with the challenge of determining how much change the various organizations can sustain at one time.

I have been working at Harley-Davidson full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The third generation of the Davidson family is involved in the day to day operations of the company. They are wonderful people and so inspiring. The history is rich and riding is fun. Employees staff most of the events and have the opportunity to interact with customers. It is a great experience to work an event like Daytona Bike Week or Sturgis.

    Cons

The middle and upper levels of management are primarily home grown. Many have not worked for another company and came to H-D out of college. The culture is very out of date and could best be described as "good old boy". Even though one of the top 5 focus areas has been Leadership development, there has been very little impact. There is very little room for advancement unless you have a person “in” with someone at a higher level in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start evaluating managers on their performance as a manager and clean house. Find a way to get honest feedback from direct reports and peers. The engagement survey is not working as a vehicle to rate managers. Bring the GIS department into the 21st century and upgrade the technology infrastructure so people can do their jobs. Stop building home grown solutions and start relying on industry standard solutions that are available.
