I have been working at Harley-Davidson full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Really cool products!
Good group of people to work with
Premium Healthcare
On-site fitness centers, staffed with trainers
Opportunities to interact with customers firsthand at rallies and sponsored events
Lots of new technology and processes
Solid compensation and perks
Good sense of direction for the company with defined mission and stretch goals

Cons

Very much a relationship based company
Non-confrontational, people would rather go to a manager then address a concern or issue firsthand
Lack of accountability with cross-functional teams
Poor HR department, not engaged with nor understand what employee development means
The worst change management and change leadership ever experienced
Organizational structure does not meet the needs of the business
Ambiguity around core business hours, expect to respond to emails and phone calls 7 days a week

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a difference between Change Management and Change Leadership, and a proper way to implement both
Hold people accountable and empower others to do the same
It's only motorcycles, not curing world hunger

    I have been working at Harley-Davidson full-time

    Pros

The company has been successful in achieving it's strategic transformation goals to date and aligning it's global IS organization more closely with business strategy and imperatives. The level of professionalism and growth in process maturity is a direct outcome of the change in leadership and corporate culture. This is a culture of high standards in corporate values, personal accountability and continuous improvement, a good fit for those with talent, discipline and a genuine desire for personal development in leadership and career growth. Everyone's contribution is valued and a strong team ethic is the norm.

    Cons

The work load can and does vary significantly based on project participation, which should be expected in a transforming organization. Must be comfortable working in an environment of some ambiguity and presistent change as the company adapts to the mandates for increasing efficiency and growth in a highly competitive, global marketplace.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an open mind and continue to adapt as new strategies evolve and their execution provides important feedback. The products embody a balance of art and engineering, inspiration and perspiration, inherently human qualities that imply balance throughout. Be careful not to become blinded by the success of one approach to the future, lest the benefits of formula-driven rigor devolve into rigor mortis.

I have been working at Harley-Davidson full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    fair pay
    paid parking
still sorta cool to say you work at "Harley-Davidson" to those unknowing!!!

    Cons

1.) brought in supervisors recently - which have no clue in manufacturing!
2.) keep cutting benefits/perks and taking away from work environment - establish crazy cuts that effect ONLY the worker bees... everything increase except for treatment of workers - even cafeteria food...
3.)no respect, no appreciation, only promises and "get back with you's..." that never occur.
4.) announce lay off and create 6 vice president positions immediately after
5.) during talk of budget and struggles - load with middle management that was never needed before
6.) enforce hostile work environments with no corrective action
7.) work OT to prepare for lay off - continuously
8.) even though plaque hangs on wall noting "truth" being first value of company - you will never hear such a word inside the doors! Mostly from salary.
9.) ever worked for the federal government - you'll do fine! hypocritical as hell and ever changing
10.) would only wish this on my ex-spouse! And then... might feel a little bad.
    11.) discrimination alive and well!!!
12.) same day as surveys/sermons - guilty of what preached. typical to say one thing and do other - daily!

AND FOR THOSE THINKING OF HIRING ON - ALL CASUALS NOW... DON'T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB. They recycle through casuals/temps to hire like candy. promise will be hired within 60 days... some waiting for year/s. then because can't keep w/o insurance will terminate on a dime to save $$$ no matter what your work ethics are.

FOR THOSE OF YOU SLACKERS... it's a great place to work - you'll retire! FMLA king/queen - our doors are open!!!
