I have been working at Harley-Davidson full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Salary, bonuses, benefits, automatic 3 weeks of vacation, wellness program, long-term incentive program, awesome workspaces, fitness center, employee engagement focused, you can wear jeans every day!!!

Cons

In some areas, can be a bit 'rigid' in their thinking, simply a cultural thing, I think. But I'm ok with it...

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work with employee engagement; it'll be the catalyst to drive the new culture shift!!!

  2. If you are contract, fulfill your term and leave - if you aren't booted first.

I worked at Harley-Davidson as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Culture change is leading to more lean manufacturing practices which they have tried to educate all employees on.

Strong emphasis on safety in the workplace -- "leave the same way you came in".

Great hardworking and dedicated people that believe in the brand.

Great place to use as a stepping stone to move forward (and elsewhere) in your career.

Culture change is leading to more involvement from those on the assembly floor.

    Cons

Less and less regard for benefits to the people on the floor -- union/corporate relations are unfavorable.

Turnover is leading to added responsibility (and late hours) to those in permanent positions without an increase in pay.

No defined leaders; decisions take forever to be made because roles are muddied by turnover and by "pointing fingers" at who should be responsible.

    Not a mentoring environment.

    Behind the times on technology.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize when talented people are front of you. Likewise, stop recruiting those who are clearly incompetent at their job after the first couple of months. Also, stop passing the buck on making crucial decisions that affect business in the immediate or near future. Granted the culture change will help this, but only time will tell.
