Good learning experience as intern at HarperOne (SF)

Publicity Intern (Former Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsEveryone was friendly and genuinely cared about my learning. As a first internship in college, it was overall a good learning experience - got to learn the ins and outs of publicity for publishing. After a few months I was also given some more responsibility in my tasks, e.g. pitching bloggers. Also: free books!

ConsUnpaid, no stipend, no potential for/promise of full time employment in future. Also, some days I worked entirely on menial tasks, e.g. book mailings.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Not a good long-term career path for those just entering the job market.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) New York, NY

I worked at HarperCollins full-time for more than 8 years

Pros: You will learn patience. You will learn how to MULTItask. You will learn deadlines mean nothing if you are the right person. You will learn… Cons: Low pay at entry level. Justified by HR as your entry level lack of experience. Catch-22 is should you ever move beyond entry to… Advice to Senior Management: The performance reviews are meaningless as you have no intention of rewarding hard-work so spare the pretense. HR told the union in their negotiations… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
