I have been working at Harris Associates

Pros

Great compensation and benefit package. Great work and life balance. Low stress level. Very stable company. Strong job security.

Cons

For operations only - Lack of accountability, mundane and repetitive work, behind on technology, no performance base bonus, hard to be motivated or motivate others, too political, lack of professionalism, condescending attitude, lack of interaction with the senior partners, lack of leadership, lack of shared vision. Unfair treatment - not punishing low performers and minimal ability to reward high performers. Lack of fluency within the organization.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Operations and compliance at Harris is suffering from very mundane repetitive work. There are many tasks performed manually due to the lack of recent technology. Employees in operations do not professionally grow from the responsibilities assigned to them, and often need to seek externally to do so. Also, very limited ability or intention of the senior management to punish low performers and reward high performers makes it very hard to be motivated. Once high performers realize that they will be treated almost same whether performing bear minimum required or produce high results, they become bear minimum performers. People who serve as advocate for portfolio managers have strong condescending attitude towards operations people, which is very unprofessional and hurts the morale of the group. Employees are not sure that senior partners really understand how their employees feel at work since the issues don't seem to be communicated to them.

I have been working at Harris Associates full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I have no complaints with the values and benefits of the company. The company treats their employees with over the top benefits, competitive pay and free good food. People are smart, humble, and approachable also which is a big plus.

    Cons

No complaints really. We're well taken care of and the company is growing.

I have been working at Harris Associates as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

Team building activities, relaxed environment, food everyday (it is food, just not great food), low expectations from others, overall a nice financial institution to work at

    Cons

Not much room for growth or taking on more responsibility, leadership would rather bring on temporary work than give opportunities to current employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work/Life balance needs to be more on the life side than it is now.
