I have been working at Harris full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

The type of work is very interesting for the most part. The 9/80 work week (work 9, 9 hour days every two weeks, every other Friday off) is a very nice perk. Benefits are also very good.

Cons

Everything is very process oriented (as with any DoD contractor).

Your performance has little impact on raise percentages and career advancement.
Employees are shifted into the higher levels based on seniority rather than performance.
Even if your performance is well above average for your level, your review will be arbitrarily downgraded to push you into the average category to allow more senior, lower performers to progress their career.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your career progression techniques are designed to keep everyone happy, but it offends your best performers, which you should be working harder to retain.

    Pros

    Good working env, nice coworkers and working place. The working hour is very flexible and is good for work-life balance.

    Cons

    Org structure is very strange and personal development might not be good. Employees are not motivated and no growing space.

    Pros

    Free Coffee. My own office. There is the remote possibility of transferring to the parent company.

    Cons

    If you know the right people you can ________. Fill in the blank with what ever you want. Here at HCC you can forget it if you don't like office politics, being micro managed, power grabs at all levels, empire building middle managers, or kissing rear end. We only succeed because we have a good core of engineers that know how to get the job done despite what they are being told. HCC is cost cutting engineers salaries and raises while at the same time are hiring more managers at all levels. The engineering exodus has already begun and senior personnel are looking for work "anywhere
    else."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Engage your brain before your knee jerks. Blindly sticking your foot in any open door for opportunities may not be a good idea if it's the lions cage. Engineering must be involved up front so you don't promise the impossible. Even when you take a "leap of faith" and "stay the course" you eventually hit bottom or have to change course to avoid hitting the rocks.
