I have been working at Harris

    Pros

If you are a white male and conform you have it made anyone else will not survive so be careful. Take this seriously.

    Cons

Everything. Cannot think of a nice thing to say about teh company. They seriously lack integrity and every other honest trait and openly commit fraud and don't even bat an eye while doing it. Biggest group of God awful people I've seen in my entire career. Really makes you wonder where they get these people from and to top it off many of them have clearances.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bill Brown - have you ever heard of the show Undercover Boss? Maybe you should contact them so you can see first hand what your people are doing. You would be amazed at whats going on that you have no clue about and are not being kept in the loop by your own people that you probably put a lot of trust and faith in.

I have been working at Harris full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Some truly smart people with great ideas. Depending on what team you work in, very supportive management.

    Cons

Nearly everything else. Pay is low for the difficulty of the work compared to other companies. Raises are non-existent despite record-setting years. Pay is not commensurate with performance. Employees who can't do their jobs are kept around forever, no one is ever fired or let go for performance reasons other than when doing mass layoffs.

Many internal political games going on. Sometimes zero communication between teams or roles in the company (e.g. senior management, product management, sales, systems engineering). Very meeting-heavy corporate culture. Senior management sometimes very resistant to change. No consistent, clear strategy for the future. Management promises to invest in engineering and then announces layoffs weeks later. All planning is extremely short term despite any consequences it may have. DoD groups run the company despite declining sales, international teams with growing sales are ignored. Not fighting two wars any more is really hurting the company.

Harris aims to recruit new college grads at the same caliber as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. but has nothing to really offer them - lots of employees don't stick around very long. In Rochester, it seems like Harris is eventually headed down the path of Kodak and Xerox. Very sad, there is so much talent here going to waste.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give credit where credit is due. Recognize strong teams and individuals and promote their work. Recognize that the DoD spending is not the future.
