Pros

The culture can be pretty laid back, and 9/80 work schedule is great. Fantastic work/life balance most of the time.

Cons

Mismanagement and unmotivated coworkers can sometimes lead to panic and putting out fires. A lot of people seem to just be waiting out their days until retirement. Nothing cutting edge.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

New hire retention is abysmal. Not enough to keep their skills sharp, not enough mobility in the ranks to make it a "forever" job, so they leave.

    I worked at Harris full-time

    Pros

The salary and benefits were very good, considering the low cost of living in the area. Management does their best to satisfy employee career goals and to be sympathetic to work/life balance. Hard work and extra effort are recognized through promotions and raises. Work is usually very stable and consistent.

    Cons

Pace of work can be slow at times. Seniority is overly emphasized. Senior employees are treated with more entitlement than less senior employees without regard to quality of work. As a result, some employees seem to be in cruising mode to retirement. There are many references to Dilbert in the workplace.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage employees to be more passionate about their work by making sure that employees understand why they are there and why they are important to a project beyond a simple list of their day-to-day tasks.

I have been working at Harris

    Pros

Harris provides a culture of opportunity though positions and technologies. Harris invests well in its facilities and tools required to complete your job.

    Cons

Harris can be slow to react to a change in climate. Harris has a tenancy of spreading itself too thin, desiring to do everything and sometimes loosing focus across to many projects.
