Pros

Engineers at Harris are great people- I've only worked with one person I didn't like, and that person left the company soon afterward. You're given the opportunity to move around and most engineering managers are open and easy to talk to. They're building a lot of new infrastructure, both physical and in their business, that I think will serve them well for the years to come.

Cons

Being a government contractor, they have some unavoidable pitfalls. Requirements are passed down from government brass and Harris's engineers don't have a whole lot of opportunity to challenge them. Also, though Harris is trying to diversify into more commercial markets, most of Harris's business is tied to the US government and it's ups and downs.

Advice to Management

The recent decline of the benefits packages are wearing on employees. Harris has always claimed to have some of the best benefits in the business, but that isn't so true anymore.

    Pros

RF Communications in Rochester NY, great area to raise family and cost of living is decent. The non-management workforce are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

    Cons

No life work balance. Culture is all about making the sale regardless of what where you stand or the organization, you're expected to sacrifice family for the good of the company. If you're part of the inner circle you can do no wrong, management will blame others to protect the few that they chose.

    Advice to Management

Be open minded. Give opportunities to outsiders who joined the company from other organizations or competitors.

  2. Decent salary if you can deal with the nature of contracting.

    Pros

Established company, most people see it on the resume and don't ask who Harris is.

    Cons

When taking over contracts, they will reduce your pay. Turnover is high. Paid holidays are few and far between.

    Advice to Management

Please, stop underbidding contracts. You've already run off most of the employees here by cutting salaries, and the damage is still being done.
