    Great place for management research

I have been working at Harvard Business School full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you are interested in conducting management research in the field, there is no better place. It is a great stepping stone for a PhD or a management consulting career.

The position has full Harvard University employee benefits opportunities and very flexible work hours leading to a great work-life balance. Plus the best part is getting the 'Harvard experience' with access to all the events and activities around campus.

    Cons

The pay is low. There are no opportunities for raises or advancement. The training opportunities are very limited. The job can be very isolating as there is virtually no interaction with your professor or co-workers on a daily basis. There is no 'team work' or chances to learn from others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more training opportunities to build research skills; provide some sort of career advancement track inside HBS or allow access to HBS career office to assist RA's in advancing in their careers after working for HBS

I worked at Harvard Business School full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Intellectually stimulating (most of the time). Great benefits — including taking courses. Fun and smart people. And, of course, it's Harvard!

    Cons

Balkanized (they refused to share a list of who the researchers were. Why on earth would they do that?). You can get lost in the machine. Bureaucratic. Your experience at work is all dependent on which Profs you work with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Researchers get treated pretty poorly. Not sure you really care about that, but it's true.
