Former Employee - Research Associate in Boston, MA

I worked at Harvard University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Access to many proprietary resources, Learning and working with some of the best in their fields, Many opportunities for networking and making new connections

    Cons

In any academic environment the pace is much slower and this takes adjustment. In research showing your worth is not always seen as important and the investigator's time is very limited so you must be proactive in managing your career.

I have been working at Harvard University as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    - Excellent Coworkers
    - Good Pay Grades
    - Variety. Every day you find yourself doing something different, though generally not overwhelmingly so.
    - While you certainly find yourself very busy sometimes, you also can find yourself with a very relaxed schedule, as much of the work is reacting to issues that arise.
    - The majority of the people you are working with or troubleshooting for are very kind and understanding.

    Cons

    - There are some professors that are an absolute pain to try to help.
    - In my first stint with the office, there were some heavy office politics in play. They have largely subsided since, but still linger.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There was often a sense of apathy toward my efforts and my day to day activities, and that has the potential to foster an environment of apathy on the whole.
