I have been working at Harvard University part-time (more than an year)

Pros

well paid and less work. 20 hours/week. i teach weekly section and office hour. there are 4 teaching fellows in a section of 80 student. all of the other teaching fellows have taken this course so it is very easy to manage them

Cons

the tuition is not waived for this position, so the salary cannot cover everything and i still need financial aid from somewhere else

I worked at Harvard University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are comprehensive and include a variety of items not found elsewhere. Generous tuition assistance plan, numerous health benefit options, fitness benefit, etc. 35-hour full-time workweek for staff.

    Cons

Bureaucracy is everywhere. Most staff positions fall under the CTW Union, so pay raises, work schedules, etc. are fixed and non-negotiable. Pay rate is based on 35-hour workweek, so take-home pay is less than comparable positions with 40-hour workweeks.

It was a good boost to my resume, but quite dull.

I worked at Harvard University as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

They pay temporary workers well if the temporary worker is not contracted through an agency.

    Cons

They will end your contract the day of in some circumstances. I was lucky enough to be given a month's notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider hiring people who do not have master's or Ph.Ds for permanent positions. Most of you don't seem to consider life experience. It's valuable.
