I have been working at Harvard University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Bright colleagues from around the world, with usually cutting-edge science. Tons of good seminar talks throughout the year. Good core resources and expertise around to do what you need to do. If a staff member, Harvard Benefits are great.

    Cons

If you get a special external postdoctoral fellowship award, be prepared for Harvard trying to milk you for what money they can get. You will also lose some benefits (e.g., retirement savings account options). Culture of "prove yourself" and collective-induced feelings of "am I good enough to be here" gets a bit tiresome after a while.

Probably one of the best places to do postdoc, but think twice before continuing with postdoc fellowship

I have been working at Harvard University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Most Harvard postdocs are smart people, thus it creates engaging environment. The funding situation varies between labs, but most labs are usually in good funding situation.

    Cons

Too much competition, lack of mentoring, some indifferent colleagues, uncertain future.
Low pay, which is typical of postdoc positions. We're told that we are sacrificing for the future. Still, 40K after 4-6 years of training (graduate) doesn't justify that. High cost of living in Boston area doesn't help.
