Pros

Generous benefits, interesting projects. It is important that you can work on the project independently from start to finish. I like the ability to take classes for free or very cheap. It provides opportunity to advance in your profession. Environment is great, people are friendly, educated. I also like the fact that I have a chance to interact with people who came from different parts of the world.

Cons

Salaries may not be as high as in some commercial companies, but I consider this a trade-off for the less stressful environment.

Advice to Management

Good job.

    Pros

Outstanding benefits, some very innovative individuals and departments. It's an inspiring, intellectually stimulating environment with great promise for staff. In the ten years I worked there, the professed ideals always inspired me.

    Cons

Ineffective and unchecked middle-management. The university's exceptional ideals vary wildly within schools. Ability to take advantage of opportunities is dependent upon immediate supervisor's decision. One's immediate supervisor can effectively ignore the professed cultural standards for work life balance and institute a factory-like feel. That the majority of staff are happy and fulfilled make one's situation with a poor manager stand out all the more.

    Advice to Management

Enact 360 reviews across the board--especially for middle management who become promoted often due to years of service or technical skill but who have no managerial training.
