Bullyish, Horrible Workplace even for Recruitment

I worked at Harvey Nash Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice office (yet horrible work environment) and good database/network. No other redeeming features to mention unfortunately and I had very realistic expectations of recruitment and the role but nobody should have to work in this kind of environment when so much is spent on the infrastructure but nothing done about the aggressive culture.

    Cons

-Sexist, an office full of 'lads' (including managers) with some incredibly crude and crass comments expected to be taken as banter such as the comment 'well she was only hired because xxxx manager wanted to sh*g her, you've just got to ask yourself who wanted to sh*g you'
-You'd be shocked how different managers are in reality compared to the interview stage, it's worth remembering they interview people every day and their friendly demeanor tends to end once someone's placed-including you!
-I had to leave because the senior manager's bully-boy atitude and daily shouting sessions just made work unbearable
-Phones monitored constantly (call-times sent around every morning to the point where half the office have to spend their lunch breaks calling their own mobiles to meet the unrealistic targets) and lots of cold-calling
-Managers often use the 'snug' in the office to take members of staff and scream at them for (often minor) mistakes meaning the rest of the office can hear
    -Bully tactics employed and promoted
-High staff-turnover and very very low staff worth
-Managers take the majority of your commission and you get very little for at least a full year (probation period is also 6 months within which time the standard commission structure doesn't apply to you)
-I saw someone who placed a contractor threatened with not receiving his hard earned commission (and thus it going to his manager...) for having low call times-surely the result is sometimes more important than the method?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show your staff some respect and work to get rid of the disgusting sexist language that is bandied around. Training for line managers should be standard to give them advise to encourage staff not just scream when targets aren't met. Also, set realistic targets if you expect them to be met as opposed to forcing half the office to cheat.

Albert, you need to get on the ground more and see if your idealistic culture promoted at the kick-off is being conveyed or the next generation of consultants will not be one to be proud of.
