I have been working at Hastings Entertainment part-time (more than a year)

Pros

Great Co-workers
A few decent customers
Discount is okay
I love a couple of my front counter managers
Neat selection of stuff
Always get to see new releases
Flexible, for the most part

Cons

Write up's are givin very often, and sometimes wrongly so.
Poor Hours, Poor Pay.
Some new hires are getting higher pay than some of us that have been there longer doing the same thing.
Inconsistencies with managers, one will tell you one thing is alright, while another may write you up for doing the same thing.
Required to get 5 magazine subscriptions a day, and hardly any of the customers want them.
When working on floor, managers expects you to stock 2 to 3 carts, do customer service, straighten, call special order customers, and get returns all in 4-5 hour shifts.
Some managers are very rude to employees, in front of customers.
Some managers are very rude to customers.
Almost zero training when you first start. You might get lucky if they show you how to search merchandize in store computer.
Your thrown into fire the first day.
Some mangers just won't listen.
High Turn-over rate

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get training programs that promote more fluid customer service.
Keep rules consistent.
Don't force services that customers don't want.

    Pros

    The tips I got from working at the cafe…that was it!

    Cons

    The people! Your coworkers, your MANAGER!
    They have a open door policy but its not really a open door policy as soon as you have a problem and you are being harassed. You will be pushed so far to be fired! they don't fired they just move you till you will quit! They disrespect their employers. Its horrible. The cafe is the worst place to work, you work 8 hours at a time because nobody including your manager would come in and would receive no thank yous or support! Only a write up for the first thing you do wrong. Beware "team leaders" have favorites!!!

    Good discount on some items, coworkers can be nice,

    Cons

    store is mostly run on part time employees, so of course no benefits, low hours
    hours are based on how much junk you can sell, not how hard you work.
