I have been working at Hatch

    Pros

    International company
    Flexible workhours
Nice place to learn good quality engineering and documentation procedures
The company provides a lot of training courses allowing engineers to continually develop

    Cons

    Salary
Lack of set objectives for professional growth
    No talent management
Lack of supervision for young project managers working on small scale projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Junior Engineers starting with the company are faced with very low starting salary and the yearly salary increases are very low. This is an issue when engineers reach the 5- 10 year experience point when they are faced with having a very low salary when compared to new employees having the same experience. Since the company does not really have a clear set of indicators on objectives vs responsability it is impossible to know what responsabilities you should seek to advance professionally as well as monetarily.

I have been working at Hatch

    Pros

Hatch is one of few companies that goes out of it's way to make it's employees happy. There are plenty of opportunities to work across the globe, and hatch is happy to pay to have you and your family moved. Senior management is great for not shutting themselves out from the lower level staff. They're always happy to get a phone call or a visit from any of the employees and will openly answer any questions honestly. Small upside, but in some of the offices, coffee is free.

    Cons

Because Hatch is a relatively large company, they often throw the word "Policy" around. Everything has a specific procedure and policy that must be followed. Sometimes a job should be looked at individually so the best method can be evaluated and not compared to completely different tasks.
Some of the lower level management also have ego issues where they insist on proving their potential to senior management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While so many companies have yearly performance reviews with employees, Hatch tends to focus the yearly evaluation on Career Development. Keep doing this. Showing your employees on a regular basis that you want to help them succeed will keep motivation and morale up.
