Current Employee – been working at Hcsc
Pros – Working for an insurance company gives you great benefits for practically pocket lint, and the company itself champions diversity. As a transgender person, it's phenomenal to have supposed protection as an employee.
Cons – Most of my coworkers seem to be dead inside because of this job. The atmosphere is very discouraging; going above and beyond the call of duty gets you some praise, if you take it at face value. Unfortunately, words only go so far, and constantly getting a slap on the wrist by micro-managing supervisors makes you wonder why you even bother. Taking initiative is apparently viewed as insubordinate or offensive. The diversity is mostly on paper; I am afraid to be 'out' to my coworkers for fear of retaliation.
Advice to Senior Management – Give your employees the freedom to actually work on their assigned tasks to their full ability, instead of letting the bureaucracy of the multiple units slow everyone down. It's impossible to get anything done when you have to rely on a system that is hardly efficient. Also, stop using software that's older than many of your employees.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
