Pros

Excellent faculty locally. Local academic management has good intentions. Students who want to work can get great training in both skills/knowledge and workplace cultural exigencies.

Cons

High-level academic management is clueless. The academic department doesn't play it's role as an advocate for academic quality and ethics to balance the business department's emphasis on numbers. Across all campuses at mid-level management, there is a pervasive unwillingness to do anything beyond the minimum required by unfocused upper management.

Advice to Management

Who knows how to fix a broken spirit? While you've kept the school in business, you have alienated the few managers who care about basic quality and ethics and made the entire operation a safe place for duplicitous dullards. The basic elements are all there in the classrooms. Start with meaningful training in ACADEMIC management that emphasizes fundamental quality course development and delivery that is monitored on a regular basis. Develop a corporate-level academic management culture of respect for quality. Allow Admissions to market real evidence of student learning outcome attainment rather than persist in producing completely invalid, uncontrolled benchmark assignments as the basis of learning outcome claims. Let the real value of of a Heald education be reflected in real outcomes by selling steak instead of sizzle.

    Pros

There is no way to come up with twenty words that describe the pros of working here other than to say there is no heavy lifting.

    Cons

A once great school with 150 years of changing people's lives has become a cesspool obessed with profit. Middle management is vindictive and incompetent. There is little to no training in anything, the MO is "just go and do it, but if you do it wrong we will write you up". This is disturbing in such a highly regulated environment. Profit comes ahead of student learning outcomes. The Admissions Department preys upon the poorest of the poor, recruiting "students" from homeless shelters and rehab facilities, enrolling people who are pushing all of their worldly possessions around in a shopping cart. There is little to no work/life balance. With eight starts a year mandatory overtime is a nearly weekly occurrence. Middle management will make you feel guilty for needing to fulfill family obligations or being sick.

    Advice to Management

By returning to the core values that the company was built upon profits will increase. Fewer, better quality students who come to school, do their work, graduate, find jobs, and repay their debts will be more profitable in the long run than putting as many butts in the seats as possible will be. Uncle Sam is watching.

    Pros

    - "Chance to change the quality of prospective student's lives" - Respect from the students - Bonding/friendship amongst coworkers

    Cons

    - Only concerned about $, not students - Forced students into outrageous student loans - Cold Calling to repetitive prospectives that have stated, "DO NOT CALL" - Continual harrassment of peoples phone numbers - Management doesn't know how to do their job so they take it out on you - Mentaliy of staff is that of middle/high school

    Advice to Management

    Practice what you preach
