I worked at Health Management Associates full-time (more than an year)

Pros

A lot of good people work there

Cons

They make a lot of promises they don't keep. Employees can work there for years without getting a raise. No one takes ownership. The employees and doctors aren't important to the company. They make promises to doctors to get them to sign contracts and then do not follow through.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up a realize that your employees are your business. If you treat employees good, they'll treat your patients good. You'll never get better patient or employee satisfaction scores until you learn to care about the people.

I have been working at Health Management Associates full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Rural Hospital. Pleasnt staff ( well those that Management has not run off yet. Easy to get hired when they are hiring

    Cons

working harder with less staff. Taking on more procedures with out the appropiate staffing levels to safely complete . Unable to hire replacement staff for those that leave facility. Informed last week that we will be unable to accrue Vacation time for the next 4 months and there will be no Raises at all this year ( there goes my 1%). Benefits are poor unless you go to an HMA facility. Corprate Management has shown time and time again they truely do not care about the Employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start caring about your employees and your patient satisfaction scores will go up and so will your compensation form medicare.

I have been working at Health Management Associates full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Self Scheduling, flexible uniform code.

    Cons

Low pay, lack of management support and visibility, lack of credible CEU's only provides the basic requirements. Slow ER process of patients, no working system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be applicable education for the department. Upper management needs to be more visible to be plugged into what works and doesn't work in the department and who is an effective worker and who is just taking up space with very little productivity. Increase pay to be more competitive instead of sending out emails that state you are giving pay equitable raises and then not following thru. You will have an increase in job satisfaction if you do these simple steps and retain your nurses instead of losing employees to all other local hospitals and being short staffed on a day to day basis.
