I worked at HealthSouth

Pros

The facility I worked at was very laid back, perhaps too laid back. Getting the staff to get even its basic duties done was about impossible.

Cons

The pay there is lousy when you first start and the turnover in employees is even worse. Typically turnover is 5-10% and remember this is for 100-200 person facility so 10-15 people must be hired every month jsut to cover all the people coming and going.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start hiring quality people and paying them what they are worth instead of hiring people that are barely breathing and their only qualification is the ability to sign on the doted line to work at HS.

I have been working at HealthSouth

    Pros

Large publicly traded company, benefits are good, excellent rehab equipment, large advertising and marketing budget.

    Cons

Unfortunately, since the scandalous leadership was ousted, it was replaced by poor leadership. The foundation of the entire institution is cracked, and is slowly crumbling. Very poor local leadership in our area exhibiting bad decisions are running the place into the ground. Very high turnover rate of Presidents, local hospital CEO's, Regional Directors, and staff. Usually high turnover is because of extremely poor management, and this is yet another example of such a case. Toxic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people with kindness and respect that are there to work for you, they are valuable resources. Communicate with your staff. Exhibit fairness. Practice clean living, and openness, and honesty, so fear and resentment and suspicions will not be the workplace climate. Get rid of the toxic culture you have created. Your local leadership is not always right. Listen to your staff, and do something about poor leadership when large amounts of people leave an area. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. Just because a leader is a friend of a friend, it does not mean he is right for the job!
