I worked at Healthline full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Location is easy to get to from most of the bay area
Nice coworkers. (Developers, Finance, SEO, etc)
Laid back work environment

Cons

People only follow management out of shear curiosity.
Low salaries.
Hires LOTS of H1B Visas at a LOW income just to fill up the engineering team. CTO feels that he is successful based on number of underlings, not quality of work.
VP of engineering is just a coder who manages a few people. Knows VERY little of how to manage people.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave! Hire a new management team who know the industry.

Healthline perfects the outdated business model of CPM arbitrage.

I have been working at Healthline

    Pros

Healthline received several rounds of venture capital and employees can skate by without doing any real work because the exec team is clueless.

    Cons

Exec team has zero focus on any real business objectives. There is no business model other than CPM arbitrage. Average age of the exec team is over 50, and no one above the manager level has any knowledge of the internet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire yourselves and save the board some much needed capital. Hire replacements that actually understand the internet. Stop convincing yourselves that the company will make it because the venture capital is almost gone.

Great environment where strong people can make a strong contribution to a strong and growing company.

I have been working at Healthline full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent environment where people who know their trade can have a meaningful impact to the company's product's, growth and bottom line. Its a fast paced high energy type of environment with a lot of hard working, intelligent people steering the ship. But because it is a fast paced company in a fast paced industry it tends to be appreciated most by people who bring a high level of energy to their work and expect the same from those around them. Predominantly smart, good, fun people in an exciting environment energized by growth.

    Cons

Like many entrepreneurial environments, this company is a great place for people who already possess high levels of skills and confidence to employ them to great effect and have fun in the process. I could however picture it being a challenging place to enter at lower untrained levels. There is no structured 3 month training program after which you spend a week in each department. Its not for the feint of heart. But you do get the chance to earn a lot of responsibility quickly and to seize knowledge on an advanced curve by working with highly skilled, experienced people who will mentor you if you ask., and maybe even if you don't. The company is working on incorporating more of the formalized structures that will create an organized training environment...but in the interim, have the courage to ask.
