Pros

Absolutely No Pros at all! None!

Cons

Too many to name! Just to name a few: No support; Must buy your own brochures and other expenses with no reimbursements; Must work many, many hours including having to do technical service on your accounts and accounts (that you did not sign up) in your territory without reimbursement even for the gas to do this servicing. Just horrible!

I have been working at Heartland Payment Systems full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Loss of and lack of talent or leadership leaves opportunity for improvement abundance. Frequent chances to meet new people. Lack of vision and poor decisions means theres plenty of work and things to fix even if the right way won't followed.

    Cons

Emphasis on procedure and rules rather than discretion and pratical solutions. This creates waste and inefficiencies. Having standards changed to fit the situation takes an act of congress so that the lowest level of rule-pushers dictate progress. Creates frustrated employees and alot of turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Discovery and understanding ought to overrule misguided directives and lack of vision. Waste is abundant as defined by Lean manufacturing techniques.

Industry is saturated. I failed to ask about competition, attrition and details of management in a commission-only job.

I worked at Heartland Payment Systems full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

There are multiple opportunities to sell payment processing and other enhancing services to many business types. Salespeople train online, with a business coach, and with managers at appointments you set. Work from home.

    Cons

Management prefers face-face cold calling on small merchants that will close at first-time meetings. You’re commissioned-only and pay for all your expenses, business-auto insurance, gas, cell phone and need an Internet device like the iPad. Triangular management was often confusing as there is a direct manager and a division manager who manage you, and then senior-level management implemented a very structured-environment after I was hired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train managers to come along side salespeople and support effectively. The five appointments a week and the structure in which management communicates this requirement sabotaged my performance and made it stressful to meet those goals.
