Pros

Compensation is great and opportunity to rise within the firm is endless for those willing to work hard to learn the business. The people are terrific and extremely willing to help you be successful

Cons

Traditional search is changing- company structures are flattening, information is more widely distributed than ever, and executives are more entrepreneurial with their careers. Heidrick is adapting to the changes but its too soon to tell what its new role will be in the new search environment.

Advice to Management

Invest in better information management tools internally to help consultants find and share information on searches, best practices, industries, and candidates

I have been working at Heidrick & Struggles full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Collegiate, great team ethos, culturally a good place to learn how to successfully hunt in packs - "best teaming". Of the big 5 firms offers the greatest chance of moving up through the business (see below) in places. Fantastic clients with C suite exposure. A perfect landing ground for a inexperienced search practitioner to learn best practice and get educated in their vertical.

    Cons

Development up the organisation whilst quicker than most places is still too biased towards luck a and timing. If you work for a mega biller in a solid market, it can be easier otherwise your opportunities come when a Partner/Principal leaves (more often than not) - therefore genuine structured planning in terms of career development for EM's to Principal is limited to poor. Pay below average much like Korn Ferry, rigid programme due to the fact that the business is Listed and therefore flexibility on bonus and base pay restrained.

    Advice to Management

Re-consider the possibility of becoming an LLP or weed out poor performing consultants to ensure better, market aligned compensation to reduce the churn on engagement managers leaving the business, in many cases they are high caliber future partners for the firm and hard to replace. If they were paid a closer market rate they would more likely invest in the longer road to Principal

    Pros

Top Executive search and consulting firm with excellent professionals and brand. Very good collaboration spirit among people, modern facilities and equipment. The company provides opportunities to develop

    Cons

Management has been until recently guided exclusively by numbers, this has change with the new CEO but there are still changes to be done in the culture. And possibly in some key positions, most of all the CFO

    Advice to Management

Keep taking care of people and flex approach to market, the times have change, the vision and values of the company are right, but its implementation needs to be carefully tailored to the new times.
