I have been working at Heidrick & Struggles full-time (more than an year)

Pros

It still helps to say that one has worked for Heidrick & Struggles, because the brand name has some historic cache even though the actual product has declined so significantly. Ironically, Heidrick in recent years trained(at its expense) a generation of top-notch executive search consultants who then either left or were let go and ended up being star power in other firms, including their own -- now taking business away from H&S.

Cons

Simply terrible leadership from its recently-departed CEO Kevin Kelly who was reviled and disrespected for years until an apparently clueless Board of Directors realized it. They must have been asleep at the wheel because everyone internally knew Kelly was in way over his head from the get-go,

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shame on the BOD for permitting management to steadily run the firm into the ground. Stockholders should hold the Board accountable for the serious loss in stock value and remove the whole lot.who have been at the scene of this crime!

I worked at Heidrick & Struggles full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Supportive IT department. Excellent office support staff. Most folks are great people, suffering under a negative corporate culture

    Cons

Original thinking is rejected. Risk-taking is frowned upon. Covering one's flank is the over-riding objective. Most communication is written because of distrust.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Foster a better culture with genuine team-building. Stop punishing people for asking questions and offering alternate solutions.

I worked at Heidrick & Struggles full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked for Heidrick & Struggles 2 different times and both were highly enjoyable!! The people are great, the work hours are flexible, Heidrick & Struggles is a great place to learn the Executive Recruiting business or expand your skill set.

    Cons

If you are hired on as an Associate it is tough to advance to the role of Consultant; This is primarily due to the nature of the roles; Consultants are rainmakers and need to be very skilled at business development; Associates are candidate developers and as such may not have the business development/sales mindset

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make it easier for Associates to advance at least to a mid level role between Associate & Consultant; from what I hear they have already done this and that is great!!
