Hard to get fairly recognized unless you're included the gossiping "in" crowd, like going to High School all over again.

I have been working at Heitman

    Pros

Among Industry leaders, company has depth of talented individuals to utilize, good firm infrastructure, good exposure to real estate industry, office is in a great location

    Cons

Positions within my department are very heterogeneous. The department has many different funds which leads to a lot of variation as far as work load expectations, responsibilities given, who you interact with, etc. which leads to a lot of unfairness with promotions and compensation. The bonus structure should be improved to more justly reward hard working employees instead of company performance vs. benchmarks that are totally out of most employee’s control. No salary increases given at year end 2008 into 2009 or into 2010 and very small increases (avg around 1%) for 2011.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the bonus structure so people in Accounting are given just compensation for their hard work and not based on factors out of their control. Address the varying work demands within the different funds in the investor accounting department. Start giving realistic salary increases that at least match increases in cost of living.
