I worked at Heritage Foundation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Heritage is a great place for those looking to help further the conservative movement. It is very purpose driven -- at all times -- and values those who want to advance the cause.

In terms of work environment, it's very family friendly with normal hours in a city where that can be rare --- folks go home at 5:00, and they leave their work behind.

    Cons

There is some challenge with career advancement at Heritage, mostly due to the fact that people in higher positions of management typically don't leave.

    Must Have Internship

I have been working at Heritage Foundation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The Heritage Foundation is really one of the best places to intern, if you are a conservative. It is more than just an intership, but rather, a place to learn more about the conservative movement. You meet some very important people, such as former Cabinet members and prominent scholars. There is free lunhc most days, if you attend one of the scheduled events (not a bad tradeoff). The staff really seems to appreciate the interns, and doesn't look at them as a necessary evil.

    Cons

Depending on whch department you were in, you were either swamped or had little to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be willing to shift interns to other departments if there is less work in the one they are in.
