I have been working at Heritage Foundation

Pros

As an intern for the Heritage Foundation, you're expected to substantively contribute to the work of senior analysts, but don't worry - there is plenty of mentoring and guidance along the way. The fact that its a paid internship in DC doesn't hurt, either.

Cons

Sometimes the aforementioned guidance and direction can feel like hand-holding - While more work than other DC internships offer, sometimes the work load can feel very "watered down."

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Heritage Foundation's internship program is one of the best programs to learn and work in our nation's capital. There isn't a whole lot of room for improvement.

I have been working at Heritage Foundation

    Pros

You know that your contributions will be used and impact policy.

    Cons

Sometimes you don't agree with the policies you are writing about. There is a particular agenda that must be supported if it is to be published by the Heritage Foundation and occasionally your own ideologies might not coincide with that agenda. You don't always get to choose the topics you would like to research and write about and it is nearly impossible to agree with a position entirely across the board. Also, the editing department sometimes makes drastic changes to your work and it might be difficult to be proud of your final publications because of the changes they have made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Higher pay for Fellows, make employees feel good about the work they are doing.

I worked at Heritage Foundation as an intern

    Pros

It is one of the best and biggest think tanks in the world. You are working with great people. There are great opportunities to get your foot in the ground and stay in Washington, D.C. if that is your ultimate goal.

    Cons

They did not articulate well some of the intern privileges.
