I worked at Hertz full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Good people to work with, bonus is good if you get one.
Overtime is 1.5, get plenty because not enough staff.

Cons

Hourly pay is laughable, expect you to run a branch on your own at $10/hr. Promise you bonus's but never follow through - then blame you as the reason you didn't get one.
Not enough staff, constantly understaffed - expected to run a branch with 1 or 2 people.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look closely when promoting area managers, some are good, but some couldn't complete a contract if their life depended on it. Area managers should be willing to help their employees not just tell them to "sell through it" -- give some advice, show them how!

I have been working at Hertz full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great employee development as long as your willing to put in the effort. Good bonus incentives. Good experience.
For those who understand what hard work gets you, this job is super easy and has tons of opportunity.

    Cons

car washing, dealing with customers who expect to be treated like royalty.
A lot of people say they shouldn't have to put up with the washing and long hours or short staffed since they have a degree, but lets face the fact that having a degree doesn't reward you with a job that pays you millions yet isn't demanding of your efforts. You have to put in your time. I see a lot of people expecting to be the ceo their first year...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward your employees, let them know you care and are their to get them to the next level.

I have been working at Hertz full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

HLE (Hertz local editions) locations have nights and usually weekends off
    Good experience running a business
Potential for fast promotion (based on sales numbers)
Face-paced environment, never boring to say the least

    Cons

Long hours with no set-aside time for breaks and lunches (take em when you can get em)
Phones ring off-the-hook, dealing with everything from reservations to billing issues
As a branch manager, you are held accountable for sales from staff that doesn't work for you. i.e. Body shops staff rent cars but don't sell, dragging your numbers down but there is nothing you can really do about it. I have been told straight-up "It's not my job to sell your insurance".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop promoting based solely on sales numbers. while most branch managers are good there are some that are terrible. Also, if the entire area is selling at a certain level and one person is selling twice as high, they are probably gaming the system to get those numbers (very easy to do I've seen it many times). However, this is often overlooked just because high sales numbers look good on reports and that's all that senior management looks at.
