Middle management has poor communication skills with customer facing employees. To often they act as "yes-men" to upper management.
Low pay and long hours.
Constant threat of being fired if you do not sell.

Advice to Senior Management

Take more time when hiring employees. Upper management needs to ensure that middle managers are acting on corporate strategy and vision.
