    I worked at Hertz (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great way to start out your management career. High energy, fast-paced environment can be fun and rewarding. You work closely with a team of people at the field level. They give you great multi-tasking experience and help you develop your leadership skills. Bonus can be rewarding if you hit your numbers. Fast promotions available if you have the qualities and skills. Company car for branch manager and above was a HUGE perk - no gas, no insurance, no maitenanance bills!

    Cons

    This company is growing too big and too fast that their customer service and employee development cannot keep up. They need a stronger foundation in order to compete with competitors. Their employees and customers will continue to hurt from the lack of organization and minimal resources if they don't stop and start from the basic. The local field employees were worked too hard and for too many hours. Coaching and development was minimal because of the volume of business and chaotic nature of the business. Their competitors work the employees just as hard, but were given more perks and career oppurtunities. Hertz has potential to be a GREAT place to work. They just need to slow down and fix what is broken so they can be even more successful.

    Advice to Management

    Slow down and offer support to the field managers. In order to maximize their productivity, you want to ensure they have the tools and support they need. Don't just put band-aids over things and push the managers too hard with not enough resource. Something will have to give.

    Ridged management style. Audit department has far too much power and creates a culture of fear
