Wasteful, "wag-the-dog" organization mostly managed by middle-management rejects from other more successful E&P's..

Pros

Hess Tower is a brand-new, shiny building in downtown Houston right next to a fantastic park. The dining facility is well-run with lots of delicious options and plenty of room to sit and socialize with fellow employees. Parking is conveniently attached to the office tower, and there are no shortage of available spaces. Location is convenient to attending other events in the downtown Houston area during off-hours. There are some good people working here as well. The company subsidizes membership in local gyms, which is very nice if you need a work-out break during the day.

Cons

CONSTANT change. Constant turnover. Inefficient recruiting / hiring process. Political promotions. Rampant dishonesty and mistreatment of employees. Most middle managers and advisors are either retirees from other companies or passed-over aspirants to their positions within Shell, BP, or a few other companies with seeming pipelines right into Hess middle management. House of Hess is a mantra drilled into the heads of all employees, but the executive leadership is sadly out of touch with how badly misunderstood and/or misapplied it is. Staggering amounts of rework necessitated by field/operations people not following procedures. Puzzling self-inflicted barriers to getting work done caused by policies that are not well-thought out, not well-implemented, or have no buy-in from the managers closest to the process.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Crack open the wallet a bit more and hire better people into middle management. Stop being dishonest with your employees. Take the time to learn what the real challenges are on the operations level and stop dreaming up silly analogies that actually DISTRACT from the job at hand, rather than reinforcing it. Stop throwing good money after bad, funding projects that are inefficient at the expense of the potential good money-makers in your portfolio.

Great company, with an exciting growth plan. Senior management is accessible, and concerned about the culture of Hess.

I have been working at Hess Corporation as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Great pay, benefits, and nice, quiet environment. Nice location. People were pleasant and it was an older company, so not a lot of drama

    Cons

When times are hard, people get let go that don't deserve it. Parking lot could get overcrowded. No one talked to each other.
