I have been working at Hess Corporation full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

o Slow and Steady wins the race (IE: you're not going to rise quickly unless you are in the rotational program)
o "Good ole boys" club (for some this might not be a "Pro"
o Took care of their own
o Takes about 3-4 years to "drink the Kool-aid / Bleed Green)
o Great retirement benefits (8% match on 6% 401k + pension)

Cons

o Spinning off / divesting all of NJ operations (Terminals, Retail (gas stations), Energy Marketing
o All the above "Pros" are in flux until there is clarity on new organization
o Several people are being pro-active and not waiting around to see if "NewCo" is better/worse

Advice to ManagementAdvice

o The quicker the announcement, the better
o "Grunts" want security in the work place
o As good as before, which was still a 4-6 year cycle of layoffs
o Stay in NJ
o Pension in NewCo would keep a lot of people around

I have been working at Hess Corporation full-time

    Pros

Good pay, decent vacation, 9/80 schedules, on-site discounted Starbucks, gourmet restaurant

    Cons

The company can't decide what it wants to do or where it wants to do it. It is highly reactive, with little thought given to formulating a real strategy and sticking to it. You will be shuffled around, a lot. People will mysteriously dissappear or "retire." It is incredibly "old school" and suffers from a huge lack of innovation--innovations at Hess mirror those other companies reached 10-15 years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some focus! Figure out what you want this company to be and stick to that vision. You would greatly improve with changing up senior leadership and bringing in truly qualified and experienced professionals--hopefully, for Hess' benefit, the three new Elliott board members will push that.

I have been working at Hess Corporation for more than 8 years

    Pros

Management gives you the freedom and responsibility to make projects your own. Work is interesting and good work/life balance.

    Cons

Opportunity for advance,en limited unless you're in the inner circle. Merit plays very small role. Management let their guard down with exposure to hostile takeover. Was less than truthful to employees in the lead up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Where do I start? Don't overpromise your employees. "House of Hess" and "Growing Your Own Timber" we're total jokes.
