Pros

Good benefits. Reasonable amount of time off. Relatively good first-level managers. Company didn't tank during recession. More and more opportunities for virtual work arrangements.

Cons

Opportunities for advancement are inconsistent. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Executives blindly view IT functions only as a cost center. Some managers live in the dark ages when it comes to allowing virtual work arrangements. Stingy pay. Do what we consult, not what we do.

Advice to Senior Management

Don't assume that anyone is willing to follow you as a leader because of your job title. Value your employees more than stockholders and watch their loyalty and hard work grow. This will be especially important in 3 - 4 years when the job market no longer provides you with the fear factor.
