This is one of the worst job experiences in my life.

Pros

As a large company their benefit offerings are good. If you are willing to move a lot your opportunities are greater.

Cons

More bureaucracy than the federal government. Everything is self serivce, you have to wade through tons of policies and procedures to try to get any questions answered as an employee! On a work level it is even worse, right hand doesn't know what left hand is doing. And just when you are familiar with the right answers, policy will change again. By far the cheapest company I have ever seen in the investments they make in regard to the tools and software systems you have to deal with on a daily basis.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

HP systems are beyond inadequate and cost the company an enormous amount of employee downtime due to systems not working. On the consumer side you could improve service drastically if management would actually make decisions based on what customer service reports and what the customer actually complains they don't like- like outsourcing!

Terrible place to BEGIN a career - much better if you've actually received training from another company.

    Pros

Diversified company; many of the jobs allow finance to work from home. Many of the people are kind. Good company brand for the resume.

    Cons

They do not train or invest in their employees AT ALL. Sure they may have some very broad tutorials on software. But, they are hands down, the worst company to begin a career with. They throw you into a job, don't train you, and then compare you to your peers who've been there for 10 years and wonder why you don't measure up. They're lame when it comes to employee reviews. They would give a MAX 2% pay increase if you're a TOP TOP performer. Also, they would give a MAX 4% bonus if you're also a TOP TOP performer. If you want to make it into one of the top finance jobs (strategy, development), HP doesn't honor internal talent. They will ALWAYS look outside the company for certain skills rather than train their own people to do those better jobs. They prefer to buy talent than train in almost every regard. This is why you should get trained somewhere else and then come to HP because they WILL NOT invest in you. They're cheap in that regard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your employees. Just because you recruit talented employees doesn't mean you don't have to invest to train them. Even top investment banks that recruit the smartest ivy league talent have to heavily invest to train those personelle.
