Pros

Great work-life balance. Empowerment to employee to perform the job well.

Cons

Promotion is tough as senior management have no visibilty. Service Tower model does not work well, cause differences between internal teams with too "well defined scope". Leverage resource model means everyone is stretched.

Advice to Management

Need to remove the mid management layers and align different service towers to work as one. Focus on total customer experience.

Previously great company never quite recovered from days with CEO Carly Fiorina

    Pros

Efficient, global marketing and delivery system means HP will always be a top competitor in many markets. Meg Whitman may be the right person to get this company really moving again.

    Cons

Carly Fiorina's time as CEO and the merger with Compaq really changed the culture of HP. The focus on employees has never returned, and as a result, a company that used to have employees that were willing to work long hours and to "do whatever it took" is largely a thing of the past.

    Advice to Management

Until HP management starts looking at employees as one of their key assets, HP will never crack the top 100 places to work lists. I think as a result, HP won't attract or retain the right talent to make HP truly one of the world's great companies as it was in the 1970s through the start of the 21st century.
